As we step into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on my journey as a designer, a full-time working mom of two, and the creative force behind kfb.studio. This past year has been filled with exciting projects, new ideas, and plenty of learning curves, but it’s also been a reminder of the importance of slowing down and staying intentional in my work.
For 2025, my goal is simple yet significant: to embrace a stress-free approach to designing knitting patterns.
Quality Over Quantity
One of the values that kfb.studio was built on is quality. I want every pattern to feel intentional, clear, and enjoyable for anyone who picks it up. But as new ideas and collaborations come my way, I’ve realized that I sometimes let the excitement of “what’s next” overshadow the joy of the process. This year, I’m committing to fewer designs and focusing on making each one the very best it can be.
Choosing quality over quantity isn’t just about the finished patterns—it’s also about preserving the joy of creation. When I slow down and give my full attention to a single project, I can pour all my energy into the details, ensuring that the pattern reflects the care and thoughtfulness I strive for in my work.
Testing with Intention
Another key part of my goal is to work more closely with my testers by focusing on one design at a time. Testing is an essential part of creating patterns that are clear and accessible, but I’ve learned that juggling multiple designs during this stage can feel overwhelming, not just for me but for the testers as well.
This year, I want to streamline the testing process, allowing myself to be fully present with the testers. By focusing on just one design, I can ensure that every question is answered thoroughly and that every detail is just right before moving on to the next idea. It’s a slower approach, but one that I know will lead to better results—and less stress for everyone involved.
A Stress-Free Creative Process
As a working mom, it’s easy to feel like there’s never enough time to do it all. But I’ve come to realize that creativity thrives in moments of calm, not in rushed deadlines or unrealistic expectations. My ultimate goal for 2025 is to protect the joy of designing by prioritizing a stress-free approach.
This means giving myself permission to pause when life gets busy, to cast off a project that no longer feels right, and to savor the process of bringing a design to life—stitch by stitch. It also means being realistic about what I can accomplish while balancing my roles as a mom, a professional, and a creator.
Looking Ahead
I’m excited to see how this intentional approach will shape my work in 2025. Slowing down and focusing on one project at a time doesn’t mean doing less; it means doing it better. It means creating patterns that I can be proud of, patterns that knitters will enjoy not just for the end result but for the experience of making them.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Whether you’ve been here from the beginning or are just discovering kfb.studio, I hope you’ll continue to join me in celebrating the joy of quality, thoughtful craftsmanship in the year ahead.
Here’s to a slower, more intentional 2025—one stitch at a time.
Warmly,
Martine
